What’s the best path to follow when your students are mired in apathy? When their phones, sports, and friends matter WAY more to them than your class? When it seems like the only way they will digest a book is if you read it out loud to them? I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately. 
In this episode, I’m sharing six unit ideas for re-engaging the apathetic classroom. While this year plan will definitely stray from traditional curriculum content, in the end, I believe teaching students that reading and writing are going to matter to them is more important than sticking to canon. Once you’ve got them on your side, THEN anything is possible!
